I mostly eat romaine lettuce raw – salad, wrap, bowl etc. but occasionally cook it. Today is one of those days. I like to eat soft romaine lettuce raw but not hard bitter one. I got a head of large dark-green romaine lettuce at a farmers market so decided to quick sautee it with no oil.
This is a very quick recipe and doesn’t require a lot of ingredients. When you want to put together something quick with what you have at home, it’s a perfect recipe. I’ll share the step-by-step directions. The shorter version of the recipe and the listing of the ingredients are at the bottom of this blog post.
- Wash romaine lettuce leaves and tear them into large bite-size pieces by hand or cut them with a knife.
2. Peel and cut ginger into thin matchsticks
3. Heat a pan and sautee ginger with little water for 1-2 minutes. You can use sesame oil if you like. I just wanted to it be oil-free today so I used water.
4. Add romaine lettuce and sautee for 30 seconds
5. Crash roasted nori sheet by hand and add to sauteed lettuce. Stir the pan.
6. Season sauteed lettuce with soy sauce and remove the pan from stove. Adjust the amount of soy sauce to your taste.
7. Sprinkle sesame seeds (optional)
The bitterness of romaine lettuce gets milder when you sautee, and it’s more palatable. You can use garlic instead of ginger or use both. You can eat a lot of romaine lettuce with this dish.
